Additional Apple M9321G/B Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter Information

The Apple Mini-DVI to DVI adapter is designed for use with the iMac (Intel Core Duo), MacBook, and 12-inch PowerBook G4. Connect the adapter to the Mini-DVI port of the computer and the DVI end of the adapter to an external DVI monitor or projector. You can also use it in combination with the optional Apple DVI to ADC Adapter to connect your computer to an older display with an ADC connector. You can use this cable in both video mirroring and extended desktop modes.

What Customers Say About Apple M9321G/B Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter:

It's only when you read down the iMac spec sheet that you see it is a Mini DisplayPort output on the newest iMac (look under the heading Graphics and Support here: http://www.apple.com/imac/specs.html) However if, like me, you have a 24" core duo iMac (the brand new version as of May 2009) this cable will NOT work - you need a Mini DisplayPort output adapter instead. Even Apple's own web site says this. Why this is not made more clear on Apple's own web site is beyond me - they are still selling comparable mini DVI adapters for the iMac. This cable says it is for the iMac. Most internet sources say you need a mini DVI adapter to attach a second monitor to an Intel core duo iMac. This is the same adapter that is used when connecting an extra monitor to an existing Mac cinema display monitor.

The pinout on the DVI has too narrow a slot for the blade and does not have sockets for the four pins surrounding the blade on the Cintiq. This adapter will not work with my new Macbook Pro 17" and it will not work with a Wacom Cintiq. The Mac end is too small for the socket on the Macbook Pro.

The result is wonderful. Because this adapters output is DVI which the Aquos does not support I decided to install a passive DVI-HDMI adapter and a 15' HDMI cable. If you're looking to display your iMAC screen images on a hi-def monitor or projector than this adapter is highly recommended. I do a lot of video editing for a not-for-profit community cable channel. I wanted to display in process production screens on a wide screen HDTV (37" Sharp Aquos) as I edited the video from my iMAC. The presentation is crisp and clear and the installation was simplicity itself.

The item works well, but keep in mind that DVI transfers only video signal and will not transfer audio. The adapter was very well priced too. This item arrived quickly as advertised in the OEM packaging. I wasn't expecting that, so I had to run separate cabling from my iMac to Bravia 52" display.

I connected my DVI cable to the adapter, plugged it into my iMac, and it just popped up as a second desktop (at 1920x1080 automatically). No setup required, easy connection. There was literally no setup for my 1080p Westinghouse HDTV. Works great.
